The UK government has dithered once again, whilst tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are barely surviving, says Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid UK.
Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid UK, said: “After over nine months of repeated attacks on Gaza’s homes, schools, hospitals, maternity units, refugee camps, mosques, churches and universities, many in the humanitarian community believe that the Israeli military has violated international humanitarian law in Gaza.
“The UK Government has an unequivocal obligation to immediately halt all arms licenses to the Israeli government – yet it has dithered once again, whilst tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are barely surviving in some of the worst humanitarian conditions ever witnessed. As the government knows, the UK remains at serious risk of being complicit in potential war crimes if the government does not commit to banning all arms licenses. We call on it to do so immediately.
“Meanwhile in Gaza, atrocities are still occurring daily, and our staff and partners report that the women and girls they work with are starving and barely surviving in inhumane conditions. The UK can and must do more to bring about a permanent and immediate ceasefire and secure the release of the remaining hostages. Now is the time to invoke targeted sanctions, travel bans, and asset freezes on senior Israeli government officials linked to alleged violations of international humanitarian law.”
