Philanthropy advisors
ActionAid works to create a world in which everyone has the right to a life of dignity, and freedom from poverty and all forms of oppression.
We work directly with women’s and girls’ groups, as well as whole communities, to address the root causes and respond to the consequences of poverty and injustice.
As an experienced philanthropy team, we give advice and guidance to clients on areas of specific interest to them.
You and your client will always have a dedicated account manager in the Philanthropy Team on hand to answer any questions on charitable giving at ActionAid.
You will be able to see the difference your support is making through regular reports and updates, and engage with our work in various ways. This includes participating in supporter events with country programme staff and gaining insights into global events and emergencies.
Our focus areas:
-
Significantly reducing the risk of violence against women and girls.
- Fighting for women’s equal rights to economic opportunities.
- Prioritising women’s and girls’ rights and leadership in humanitarian crises.
Harvesting hope with ActionAid
47-year-old Scholastique is part of ActionAid's Learning in Practice programme. Together with over 3,000 women in Burundi, Scholastique learned about how to build a small business, plan and manage a project, understand family nutrition, child protection, and women’s rights.
Thanks to the training, she now sells maize flour and green bananas produced from her own lands or purchased from wholesalers. Previously, she relied on farming to produce food for her family, but now, she earns a monthly income from her increased crop production. She is also a member of a community women's group that fights gender-based violence.
"I am now building a new house together with my husband using income generated through our small business. I bought a new land to expand my production of maize, cassava, beans, green banana, sweet potatoes and vegetables. I have now one cow, two goats and I am a member of a local credit and loan scheme where I borrow money to invest in my projects. Two of my children are now at school.”
