ActionAid UK says legislation put forward by the UK government in the Public Order Bill is a direct attack on people’s basic right to protest.
In response to the Public Order Bill legislation put forward by the UK government, ActionAid UK's Senior Women's Rights Advocacy Specialist, Anne Quesney says:
“The draconian legislation put forward by the UK government in the Public Order Bill is a direct attack on people’s basic right to protest.
Protests create positive change and are a vital form of collective and self-expression. They are essential in the fight for gender equality, racial justice, climate justice and much more.
Across the world just this year we have seen the need for protest and the impact this has. From the women in Iran to indigenous communities in the Amazon, people are risking their lives to stand up for justice and create change.
ActionAid is working with other human rights organisations to reduce the restrictions the UK government is trying to impose on people’s basic right to protest. We will continue to support all people especially women and girls in their right to protest freely in the UK and globally.”
